The Al Khayma Centre, completed in March 2005, was the first retail project developed by the Al Shaya family and Bentel Associates.
The three-level centre maximises the potential of the site. A single central space anchors the layout of the building and generates movement to surrounding retail areas, as well as increasing sight lines. Expansive clerestory windows allow natural light to enter the centre, which creates a dynamic internal environment. The signature feature of the centre is an enormous Teflon canopy that unifies the multi-volume space. Externally, the tent-like canopy soars above the glazed façades and is easily identifiable from surrounding transport routes. Two glazed stainless steel wind towers demarcate the external front entrances.
