Fisantekraal is an area north-east of Durbanville, on the periphery of the greater Cape Town metropolitan area. The project involved the masterplanning of a new multi-use node within an approximate area of 100 Hectares. The proposal encompassed a regional shopping centre, residential neighbourhoods, ranging between high, medium and low density residential offerings to suit the market, a smaller convenience ‘strip’ shopping centre, office components and light industrial warehousing provision.
A sustainable approach was at the forefront of the developmental framework, acknowledging the interdependence of urban systems and communities, as well as the effects of global issues, such as climate change resilience and economic uncertainty. It was the intention of the proposed development to promote new infrastructural upgrades in the area, resulting in improved services and public and private transport, ultimately benefitting all tenants and residents in the area.
