South City Mall Refurbishment

West Bengal, India

South City Mall is the flagship commercial development of a large mixed use township developed over phases in the city of Kolkata, India. The project was commissioned in 2011 and was massively successful. Over a period of 7 years of operations, the retail market underwent a rapid change with several new formats and brands being introduced across malls of India. Simultaneously, the aspirations of mall patrons also underwent a transformation with a need to provide a sophisticated and modern retail experience. Bentel was mandated to provide refurbishment design services for the project in 2017. Furthermore, due to it’s location along a metro corridor, the project benefitted from higher available floor space.

Bentel’s design solutions utilized the additional floor space for a brand new multi-cuisine food-court and fine dining restaurants while the erstwhile food-court area was renovated with additional shopping options. The interior design focussed on providing a brighter and more airy environ while the food court furniture and finishes are in a retro theme. Overall, the public areas are upgraded for a much more luxurious ambience than before. The mall was entirely closed during the extensive refurbishment exercise and was inaugurated in 2019 to rousing success.
