Mall of Amritsar is an operational project acquired by Nexus Malls, a Blackstone Group company. The retail mall had been operational for several years and was beginning to look and feel dated.
Competition had intensified and new retail brands were not attracted to the mall. Nexus Malls mandated Bentel Associates to refurbish the mall which included recommending changes to the spatial planning of the mall, relocate some of the vertical circulation elements, refresh the public area interiors including food-court, wash rooms and circulation spaces.
Bentel delved deep into the local culture of Punjab and provided a relatable and stimulating environment to the shopper. The design of the food court drew on colours of the traditional ‘turban’, worn by the men of the region. The plaza was renovated to create opportunities for informal and outdoor events such as flea markets and brand promotions. Today, the mall is the preferred destination for the shoppers of Amritsar and neighbouring regions.
