Pick n Pay On Nicol has enjoyed continued success after it’s opening in 2010 and in 2019 Pick n Pay realised their dream to further enhance the shopper’s experience by refurbishing the Centre. In conjunction with AIR&D and Pick n Pay’s design team we worked together to create a new look and feel for the Supermarket and Liquor Store. It was an immensely exciting project for to be involved in.

Extremely tight programme constraints and the fact that the store continued to trade during construction, meant that the team had to work very closely in order to meet the programme deadlines, and limiting any inconvenience to its loyal customers. The interior of the Supermarket was stripped completely in order to improve sight-lines, and new ‘floating’ bulkheads were introduced along the perimeter of the space, delineating the various Food and Deli areas. We worked intimately with Pick ‘n Pay’s team to assist in developing the design concept by Air & D to ensure these elements met both an aesthetic and buildable solution.

BOH prep areas were upgraded to ensure efficient and hygienic environments for the preparation of fresh product. Our scope of work on the project extended to the include the shuffle of the supporting line shops resulting in a new branded Liquor Store, relocation of existing tenants and upgrading of the exterior of the building.
