Rail Park Mall

GABORONE, BOTSWANA

Rail Park Mall is located in the centre of Gaborone, to the southern side of the Central Business District. Due to the centre’s location on the western side of the railway, it was important to consider the link between the public transport node, in front of the mall, and the railway station. This link was achieved by an overhead bridge across the railway for access to the mall, thus integrating the public transport, retail and railway components.

The mall was completed in September 2010, and is built on a 80,000m2 site, that previously was a railway shunting yard. The development has provided for 32,000m2 of gross lettable area, anchored by Super Spar and a Choppies Hypermarket, and providing for an array of sub-anchors and line shops.

The design of the mall was envisaged to integrate with the railway station and the public transport and has very much achieved a successful dialogue and use.
