The Alambagh bus station is located on the busy Lucknow-Kanpur Road and forms and integral part of an extensive multimodal transport system. The master plan by the transport department has upgraded its existing facilities from 25 bus bays to 50 bus bays and 150 bus parking bays.

The site has a 150m wide frontage area, where the bus station needed to be designed alongside a Metro Station and a commercial complex. We were faced with a design challenge.

Careful and creative architectural design played an important role in the design of the bus station due to the narrow frontage of the site. The bus station had to be designed within that space along with a metro station and a commercial complex. Planning was key in this achievement as the expected daily capacity at the station was 200 buses that would move on and off of site as well as the expected 50,000 users. It was necessary to ensure that pedestrian and vehicular traffic circulated separately and effectively.
